The 70 pages of this magazine are on wonderfully bright, smooth paper. The images are clear and have medium thickness lines, making it a good fit for any medium.
The paper thickness is not fantastic – although I haven’t had any issues with bleeding, only shadowing. This isn’t an issue once you colour the next page however.
What I love about this book is that it contains animals that you don’t often see in colouring books. As much as I love cats, elephants, butterflies and owls, it is nice to have some variety shown in the animal kingdom.
The images of the animals are large enough to contain a number of patterns and doodles – enough to keep the picture entertaining, but not so much that it becomes overwhelming.
I love the variety, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves animals. The doodles do make it difficult to maintain a ‘pattern’ throughout a picture as some repeat and some don’t. If this is an issue for you, this isn’t the magazine for you. However, I overcame this by block colouring many of these sections rather than colouring each intricate pattern individually.
This book is not an intricate book. It is not a book that will take days to finish one picture. This makes it a wonderful book for days when your concentration is low and you just want something basic to colour.
I found the subject matter cheered me up – who doesn’t love colouring a picture of a puppy? If you prefer patterns and repetition, this may not be appropriate – in some of the pictures patterns do not repeat, or appear on an ear and then a completely different pattern on the legs and again on the tail. I’ve tried to provide a number of examples of this below!
As soon as I saw this book, I knew I had to have it. I’ve always had a soft spot for animals, and this magazine does not disappoint. 130 images of animals, a wonderful variety including a crocodile, a snake, a buffalo and so much more.
If doodling bothers you, this isn’t the book for you. Otherwise, for the price, variety and quality, I think it is amazing.
