Book

This book was a bit of a surprise to me – I’d never seen it in person, so the weight of it was a shock. At 128 pages, it will definitely keep you busy for awhile!

The cover is a soft green card, embellished by metallic flowers and leaves, giving you an all over impression of a book filled with bouquets to add colour to!

The spine is glue and string bound – the next best to spiral bind in my mind. The string provides some extra reinforcement and the glue is lighter than most books, meaning that it’s not as difficult to get to the centre of images as the purely glue bound titles.

The paper is bright white and lightly textured, providing a good canvas for most mediums – pencils layered easily, fineliners and waterbased markers did not bleed and left only the slightest of shadows on the reverse side. I did not have any alcohol markers to test, but as with most books, please just pop a piece or two of paper behind the image to catch any bleeding.

Pages are double sided, but the quality and weight of the paper makes this much less of an issue than most books!

Images

As with the previous book in this collection, there are splotches and patches of colour throughout the book and images – bright fuschia this time! I thought this would be annoying at first, but I soon found that it actually helped to inspire some creativity – I wanted to find new palettes to try that would complement the fuschia, or find a way to incorporate the fuschia, or if I wanted, just left it alone.

The images are very floral in nature, but they aren’t your usual page after page of flowers – there are single flowers, bunches of flowers, portraits of single flowers spread across a page, full page botanical messes, mandalas, patterned florals and so much more!

The majority of images are single pages, but there are a handful of double page spreads in the book.

Line thickness varies a bit throughout, from thin lines, to moderate-thick in some others. The variety doesn’t affect the cohesion however, all these images feel like they belong together!

Intricacy also varies quite a bit, with some images having lager spaces and less detail, and others having small spaces with lots of detail.

Health

For health issues, no matter if you suffer from anxiety, depression, pain issues, insomnia etc – I always think that nature themed images are a great thing to colour. The subject combined with the colour palettes promote a soothing environment and calm mind; personally, I find focussing on nature or floral scenery very calming when I am feeling particularly anxious or down.

The variety of intricacy means it will be a fantastic book for fluctuating concentration levels. There are pictures you can probably finish a few minutes if you wish, or images that could take hours, depending on how well you can focus at that moment.

The line thickness and intricacy means that most of these images will probably be suitable for those with vision or fine motor skills impairments, but as always, please have a look at the images before you decide!
