Book

This book appears different from the get go – unlike the majority of colouring books, this is a bright white, colourful wrapping. The cover contains a colourful completed pattern with the artists name  on a glossy card.

The book is glue bound, although not tightly, meaning that while it may not lie flat, it will become more pliable with use. The images have a border around them, of about 1.5cm around each image, so you can get to each corner without worrying about the spine.

The paper is surprisingly thick and textured, I managed quite a few layers of pencils while I was colouring. There was no bleeding, only some shadowing when I was using waterbased markers or fineliners . Nevertheless I would recommend placing a piece of card or a few sheets of normal paper between pages if you are planning on using wet media.

The shadowing wasn’t an issue – the images are single sided!

John Wik makes fabulous patterns, tesselations and geometric designs. This book is filled with a mixture of lines to colour, surrounded by larger areas. This can come in the form of a mandala amongst a lined background, a patterned wall, or a page of interconnecting circle patterns.

Given the style that the artist works in, the variety within the book surprised me. It is nice to be able to choose between a geometric mandala, a full page pattern or anything else.

Something quite unique about this book, is that it contains a table of contents of sorts. 4 pages at the start of the book contain smaller versions of the pages – easy to see the contents at a glance, or colour a smaller version of an image.

Line thickness is consist throughout, remaining quite thin throughout the book. Intricacy also remains quite detailed throughout the book, although larger spaces  are interspersed throughout the images

Health

This is another of the books that I love when I need to distract myself and concentrate on something else. The lines and spaces are repetitive and allow you to complete pages without having to think too much or make decisions beyond the first colour choices! I love this book for insomniac nights, because it doesn’t matter about technique or colours etc, I’m focused on the activity of colouring.

The line thickness and intricacy means that it may be difficult for people with vision or fine motor impairments to enjoy this book, but please do check out the images before you make up your mind.

For some more geometric colouring, read this review!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this review,
